In front of TV cameras and yellow police tape surrounding the ruined mosque, hundreds of people came together Sunday for a interdenominational prayer service. Shahid Hashmi, the Islamic Center's president and a founding member of the congregation, expressed appreciation for the support given around the region and throughout the state.
The congregation hopes to rebuild the mosque and its community center, church home for 40 Muslim families in the Victoria area, so Hashmi set up a gofundme page to collect donations. Since then, almost $1,000,000 has been pledged.
Kindness and generosity win again.
